Terms for the free preview

This page covers the free preview, which is the stage before you buy anything. If you decide to keep the site, a separate document takes over: the 450labs services agreement, which you read and accept at checkout. Where this page and that agreement differ, the agreement is the one that counts.

The free preview

When you ask, we build you a real, working version of your site and send it to you at a link, at no cost. You can ask for changes. There is no obligation to go further, and looking at the preview does not commit you to paying anything.

The link is unlisted and we keep it out of search engines, but it is a normal web address, so treat it as something you can share rather than something secret. It is also temporary. If time passes and we do not hear from you, we take it down instead of leaving it up forever. Ask and we will put it back.

The preview is ours until you buy it

The preview runs on our platform and our hosting, and it stays with us while it is free. Seeing it does not transfer anything, in either direction. The material you send us to build it with (your text, photos, logo and prices) stays yours throughout, and we delete it on request if nothing comes of the preview.

If you decide to buy

We agree the price with you before anything is owed, and the figures that apply to you are the ones on the checkout page before you confirm. There are no prices on this site for that reason. Ongoing hosting and upkeep are charged separately and set out plainly at the same point.

One part is worth reading in the agreement itself before you pay, because people tend to assume the opposite. Your site is built on our platform and runs on our hosting, and neither of those is part of what you buy. Source code and editable working files come with it only if your order says so in writing. The agreement sets out what you do get if you decide to stop, including your content back and a written description of the design.

Stopping

You can stop whenever you like, with no notice period. On a monthly plan the site runs to the end of the month you have already paid for and then stops, with nothing further to pay and no refund of the month in progress. On a yearly plan we refund the whole months you did not use. The services agreement sets this out in full, and it is the version that governs.

Your domain

Your domain is yours and stays yours. We never register, transfer, or take over your domain or nameservers without you.

Your part

You are responsible for the information you give us being accurate and yours to use, including text, photos, logos, and prices. Please do not ask us to publish anything unlawful or anything you do not have the rights to.

No guarantees on outcomes

We build you a good, fast site and set it up to be found, but we cannot promise specific search rankings, traffic, or sales. Those depend on many things outside a website.

Liability

We do the preview with reasonable care. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or knock-on losses arising from it. Nothing here limits anything that cannot legally be limited. Once you buy, liability is covered by the services agreement instead.
